Eye shot

here Is an image of my eye we may use, we was just seeing what we want or imagine our poster to look like.

Zoombie Booth

Here is a interesting app I found for Apple products which could help us in creating a scary look for our horror trailer. It is called zombie booth were you add a picture and it creates a scary look for you, you can also have it as a video which we could possibly add to our trailer. Here are a few images I have edited using this app.

Can movies still create moral panic?

I was researching films that cause moral panic, and found that there was a debate that horror films do not cause moral panic, but video games do. As they make video games now days more realistic and violent it arises awareness to viewers on how society is. However as I am making a movie trailer and want to create moral panic, I found an interesting article and video stating that horror films that are based on true stories still do create moral panic. In my trailer I will be stating it will be based on a true story, because this gives a better audience reaction. My horror trailer should make my audience jump and keep them engaged at all times, so I will try to add in moral panic of how society can be.

Horror movies such as Child's Play, Severance, the Evil Dead, and video games such as Grand Theft Auto, and even old action movies like Die Hard and the Towering Inferno can be identified as potential triggers for properly anti-social behavior and worse.

One to One Interviews

These are interviews that I have conducted, for my market research I have asked each individual a series of questions which will help me with my trailer. I will be evaluating the trailer and explain my findings at the bottom of each interview. My interview only consist of females, so It will be quite bias to my male target audience. Interview 1 In my first interview, apologies for the bad quality but I asked Rezwana a few questions about horror, the first question I asked was what you like about horror so that I can see what excites and thrills my audience and how I can put this in my trailer. She said she likes being scared and for entertainment. So it has to draw her in to catch her attention. The next question was what type of horror she preferred, she said ‘comedy horror’ this may because she is young and she would not like to see all the vile and gruesome that psychological horror has. The other questions related to what horror films she liked and she said all films about possession and demons, however in all these movies we do not see a lot of blood and gore, it is more jumpy this could link to her age again or just the fact she likes he rate beating fast over jumpy scenes. The last questions are similar to what was asked in the survey where I received similar answers.

Interview 2 The second interview was where I asked the same type of questions, why she watched horror and the reason was for the thrill. I then asked what the conventions of horror are where I received the same answer, isolated place and she said she likes how the mood and the music of the place affects your mood in real life, this shows that music if a very important part in making my trailer. I then asked what she would lie to see in my trailer and some of the stuff she said was the mysterious music, give some of the plot away and, make them sacred so they left wanting to see more. Her favourite film was insidious because of the rush maybe because of the jumpy scenes which was similar to what was said in my first interview. She also liked the paranormal side of movies, so she does not like to see the blood and gore also, it is about how horror makes you feel then more so

Interview 3 Interview 3 was with a much older adult; however is a really big fan of horror. With my potential target audience I will be marketing at older people to. So I asked Ms a series of questions similar to the previous ones, she liked horror films for the suspense, not knowing what will happen next which I will be using in my trailer suspense and jumpy scenes. She also liked the paranormal side knowing it could be real frights Ms more. She does not like blood and gore either, for my trailer she said the beginning was the important as this has to grip the audience in to keep them wanting to watch more. The music also plays a good part in trailers.

Interview 4 My last interview was with Ms Slav who said she enjoyed horror because you can get scared by knowing it’s not real at the end. She also does not like to see the blood and gore, but the reason for this is her imagination is far worse then what is seen. By showing gruesome scenes may be a let-down to some viewers as they picture something far more thrilling for them. She also said in today’s society there’s nothing really that scary apart from horror films and it gives the feeling of being on a roller coaster. She also likes the visual images such as the music and dark scenery. The attraction of horror is something you want to experience but not really come in contact, so you would like to believe it but deep down are really scared. She also prefers the psycho horror, where it plays with your imagination more than blood and gory films do. She also suggested to me that Cabin in the Woods is a great film that plays with typical conventions of horror. She also said the beauty of good horror films is you can never quite see the scariness, so the imagination is left to its wildness.

Posters for horror movies

I Have researched different types of horror posters and the three which were my top favorite were

The Blair witch project because the poster makes the film look even more realistic, by having the missing sign with the real actors names and pictures, gives the viewers more of a shiver and a fear which is why people watch horror.

I also liked the Omen poster because they use a sweet innocent child, but his shadow is a wolf, which suggest that he could be the villain, we are left to the unknown and it draws the viewers in about how a little child could be connected to a big wolf.

The Ring is also a good poster as we are still left with the unknown, of whats its going to be about, we see the shape of a ring but it is unclear what it is, just a bright light around it abut all black inside and out, which suggest something bad, if there is any light. The writing also looks as if it is hand drawn by a child because it looks quite messy, which gives us the hint that a child is involved in the horror film. The writing is also not in a line and is out of place which may suggest that in the movie everything is out of place.

What is seen in horror films

What is seen in most horror films I will be considering the images to plan my idea for my trailer and poster, this will also help me with my narrative as I can relate the items used in most horror films, I need to be inspired by horror films to create my own. I will also use this for my evaluation where it shows I have researched and were I gained my ideas and knowledge from.

Classifications

Classifications that I am going to consider are only 15 and 18 because most horror films are classified as this. Horror films in current time are more 15 the reason for this is directors want more viewers to make more money. As my trailer will be much budgeted, I should consider more the 15 classification as it may not be well edited and filmed as other films with big budgets. So I may not have anything to gruesome for the viewers, I will also have to consider the props and location that are available to me.

15- Discrimination cannot be shown or no discriminatory language. Drug taking, may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The horror can be a strong threat and menace which is permitted unless it is sadistic or sexualised. The imitable should be easily accessible weapons should be glamorised. Language there can be frequent use of strong language. There can be sexual context without detail; there can also be nudity without detail. There should be no theme prohibited provided the treatment is appropriate for 15. Violence may be strong but should not dwell on pain and injury.

18- Adults should be free to use their own entertainment, with some exceptions. It is in breach of criminal law or has been created through the commission of a criminal offence. Material or treatment appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or through behaviour to society, portrayal of the violent or dangerous acts or illegal use which may cause harm to public health or moral panic.

Ideas

These are some images that I have taken my self, not using a professional camera.

Late at night I was searching for locations that I could use in my trailer and also my poster for my work. the locations I picked are ideas from current horror movies such as a dark alley way at night always means danger and creates suspense in real life and in movies which is a great location to film. I have two shots of these a dark alley and and a clear bright one they were both shot at night, I believe the most effective is the bright one with lights as you can see it is much more clear however with a professional camera that has night vision the dark alley may look better, but with a I phone it looks unclear

I also chose a typical isolated place which is seen in many films such as the Blair witch project and Hollowen this is a good scene because I can relate it to other movies in my evaluation. I also included the street lamp which I personally think gives the image a better affect, everything is dark except the light.

Is anything new or original?

It is argued that horror films in current times are either re makes or similar to old horror movies, there is no originality in new horror films

Steave Neal 1980 " genres are instances of repetition and difference "

Tzvetan Todrov argued that a new genre is always the transformation of one or several old genres

Mulvey

" Men act and women appear. Men look at women, women  watch themselves being looked at"

women are seen in horror movies as being passive, the men act such as fight the villain, while the women stand and look pretty

Some examples of this in horror movies
                                                                 Sorority Row

            Bride of Chucky
